We hung a commercial grade gate to match the chain link line defining the property edge, using the materials on record for the build: cedar pickets, 2 1/2 inch square steel posts set in concrete, three Douglas fir 2×4 back rails, and galvanized ring shank nails throughout. Square steel posts on either side of an opening matter more than anything else, because they carry swinging weight without leaning as clay soil swells and dries. Ring shank nails keep their grip through that same movement. Around Glenpool, an opening that still latches easily years later is the whole point.
