A solid privacy wall catches wind the way a sail does, and every gust ends up in the posts. That is why these are 2 1/2 inch square steel, set in concrete, rather than timber. Three Douglas fir 2×4 back rails spread the load from the 5/8 by 3.5 inch pickets across each section instead of concentrating it top and bottom, and galvanized ring shank nails keep their bite as boards move with humidity. The pickets came pre-stained in cedar tone. We built the walk gate from the same material with heavy duty hinges and a secure latch. Open Bixby lots take weather head on, and this run is put together for that.
