Here those are 2 1/2 inch square steel, concreted in, with three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails distributing the load along the run. The pickets are 5/8 by 3.5 inch Douglas fir in a cedar tone pre-stain, nailed on with galvanized ring shank nails that stay put when boards flex. The walk gate carries its own backrails and a secure latch on heavy duty hinges. A run of pre-stained fir gives a Glenpool yard consistent color from the first day rather than after a season of weathering.
