We hung an Ameristar walk gate and a 10-foot Ameristar double gate, both with heavy duty hinges and secure latches, into a run of 5/8″ x 3.5″ x 6′ Douglas fir pickets pre-stained cedar tone. Behind those pickets sit three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails and 2 1/2″ square steel posts set in concrete, fastened with galvanized ring shank nails. Iron gates never swell shut in humidity the way a wide wood gate can. On a Broken Arrow property, black iron against cedar tone reads well.
