We built this one from 5/8 inch by 3.5 inch by 6 foot Douglas fir dog ear pickets, pre-stained cedar tone, laid over three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails and nailed home with galvanized ring shank nails. The 2 1/2 inch square steel posts are set in concrete, so long exposed stretches stay plumb instead of bowing where the wind hits hardest. The walk gate matches, hung on heavy duty hinges with a latch that stays lined up. In Broken Arrow, that kind of exposure calls for the sturdier post.
