Seasons will change the color of these boards and not much else. Douglas fir pickets, 5/8 by 3.5 by 6 feet, arrived with a cedar tone stain already applied, so the wood met its first Oklahoma summer covered. Three fir 2×4 backrails hold them true, galvanized ring shank nails grip without corroding through, and 2 1/2 inch square steel posts sit in concrete where buried timber would slowly give way. For access we built a walk gate and an 8 foot double gate on 8 inch strap hinges, with a drop rod assembly to secure the standing leaf. Both come from the same stock as the fence. Practical is the word for a Broken Arrow backyard.
