Cedar tone stain went on these pickets before they ever reached the site, so the finish is even on every board, front and back, with no lap marks and no waiting on a dry week to brush it. The pickets are 5/8 inch by 3.5 inch Douglas fir with dog ear tops, which softens the top line so the run does not read as a flat wall. Behind them, 2 1/2 inch square steel posts set in concrete and three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails keep the face flat. Galvanized ring shank nails stay gripped. The walk gate came out of our shop in the same stained material. Bartlesville sees real weather, and this build is set up for it.
