Frost gets into the ground here often enough to lift a shallow post, and concrete footings are the reason this fence will not walk out of line. The 4×4 posts are treated for ground contact and set that way from the start. On top of them run three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails and 5/8 by 3.5 inch Douglas fir pickets, already stained a cedar tone when they arrived, nailed with galvanized ring shank nails. The walk gate uses the same lumber and hangs on heavy duty hinges with a secure latch, so it ages at the same rate as the fence. Coweta back yards get a clean, warm toned boundary from this build.
