We set 4×4 treated posts in concrete along a strung line, ran three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails between them, and fastened 5/8 inch by 3.5 inch Douglas fir pickets, pre-stained in a cedar tone, with galvanized ring shank nails. The walk gate was built from the same stock and hung after the run was standing. Treated lumber below grade with a stained face above it is a straightforward pairing that has kept Oklahoma yards enclosed for a long time. On a Broken Arrow lot with mature trees and settled soil, an all wood build still looks the most at home.
