A tall privacy line has to hold color, hold shape, and hold up against wet clay. We used Douglas fir pickets at 5/8 by 3.5 by 6 feet in a pre-stained cedar tone, three Douglas fir 2×4 back rails, and 4×4 treated posts set in concrete. Treated timber is made for ground contact, and concrete keeps each post from tilting when the soil goes soft in spring. Galvanized ring shank nails bite into the fir rails and stay bitten as the wood cycles wet and dry. The matching wood walk gate carries its own back rails, so it keeps square. On a standard Broken Arrow lot this build closes the yard and looks intentional.
