Treated pine 4×4 posts were the right frame for this one, set in concrete where they resist the moisture that soaks into clay soil after a hard rain. On them we hung three Douglas fir 2×4 back rails and 5/8 by 3.5 inch Douglas fir pickets, already stained a cedar tone, so the finish covers every surface rather than just the face. Galvanized ring shank nails keep the boards tight as the wood cycles between damp and dry. The walk gate carries the same stained pickets, sturdy back rails, and galvanized fasteners. A wood post fence keeps the classic look many Broken Arrow neighborhoods were built around.
