August sun beats hardest on whichever side of a property faces south, and this build answers it two ways. Along the open boundary we installed Ameristar Montage Classic three rail ornamental iron on 2 inch, 16 gauge black posts set in concrete, with 4 inch standard picket airspace and an extended picket bottom rail. Where the owners wanted cover we built cedar privacy from 5/8 by 3.5 inch pickets on 2 1/2 inch square steel posts, backed by three Douglas fir 2×4 rails and galvanized ring shank nails. A welded steel walk gate in 1 1/2 inch galvanized tubing opens outward, and an ornamental iron walk gate serves the open side. Bixby lots often want both looks.
