Three sides of this property carry the same finished top: a 2×6 cedar cap board with 1×4 cedar trim below it, closing off the picket ends and giving the fence a clean horizontal from any angle. Under the cap sit 5/8 inch by 3.5 inch cedar pickets on three Douglas fir 2×4 back rails, all nailed with galvanized ring shank nails. Posts are 2 1/2 inch square steel set in concrete, so the long stretches stay plumb and the cap stays level, which is the detail people notice first when it goes wrong. Our crew built the walk gate from matching cedar. Jenks lots with this much fence line benefit from the extra structure.
