Two walk gates went in on this job, both built in our shop from the same cedar as the fence, so neither looks bolted on. Each hangs on heavy duty hinges with a secure latch. The fence itself covers two sections of the property in 5/8 by 3.5 by 6 foot cedar pickets on three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails, fastened with galvanized ring shank nails. Below the boards, 2 1/2 inch square steel posts set in concrete carry everything and stay clear of the rot that ends buried timber. Cedar weathers well without help. At an Owasso home where people come and go from more than one side, two gates beat one long detour.
