Most fences fail at the ground line, not up top. That is why the posts are 2 1/2″ square steel set in concrete: there is nothing at grade for moisture or insects to eat. Above that, 5/8″ x 3.5″ x 6′ cedar pickets in a dog ear cut hang on three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails, held with galvanized ring shank nails. The walk gate uses the same boards and rails, with heavy duty hinges and a secure latch. Cedar oils handle the weather on the exposed face. Owasso soil goes from saturated to bone dry within a season, and a steel and concrete foundation rides that out better than timber does.
