Any gate drops a little over its first few seasons as the wood settles and the weather works on it. The walk gate here was built with an adjustable diagonal support brace for that reason, so the corner can be drawn back up square whenever it needs it, and it swings outward away from the house. The fence beside it is 5/8 by 3.5 inch cedar picket on three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails, held by 2 1/2 inch square steel posts set in concrete and fastened with galvanized ring shank nails. Owasso yards where the gate is the main route into the back deserve that bit of extra hardware.
