The gate is the part of a fence that gets used, and the part that usually sags first. Here we built the walk gate on a welded frame of 1 1/2 inch galvanized square steel tubing, set to open outward away from the house so it clears the ground and anything sitting near it. The run itself is 5/8 inch by 3.5 inch by 6 foot cedar dog ear pickets over three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails, all on 2 1/2 inch square steel posts set in concrete, fastened with galvanized ring shank nails. Cedar weathers to a silver grey if you leave it alone. A long lasting pairing for a Bixby property.
