The picket height closes the yard, and a steel framed gate keeps the opening honest. Pickets run 5/8 by 3.5 by 6 feet in cedar over three Douglas fir 2×4 back rails, carried on 2 1/2 inch square steel posts set in concrete. The gate frame is welded from 1 1/2 inch galvanized square steel tubing and skinned in matching cedar, hung to swing outward, away from the house. Galvanized ring shank nails hold the pickets through the wet spring and dry late summer that northeast Oklahoma runs on. Nothing in the structure depends on buried wood.
