Six feet of solid cedar turns an open lawn into somewhere you actually want to sit. The pickets are 5/8 inch by 3.5 inch by 6 foot, dog eared, hung on three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails and nailed with galvanized ring shank nails so nothing works loose as the wood cycles through wet and dry. Posts are 2 1/2 inch square steel, set in concrete, doing the structural work below ground where timber tends to fail. The walk gate is cut from the same cedar, on heavy duty hinges with a latch that closes without a shove. Glenpool back yards feel considerably larger once they have an edge.
