These are 2 1/2 inch square, in concrete, and because they do not twist or check the way sawn timber can, the fence line stays true even as sections step down a grade. Cedar pickets at 5/8 by 3.5 inch hang on three Douglas fir 2×4 back rails with galvanized ring shank nails, giving a solid face with no gaps to peer through. Our walk gate is built from the same cedar, with heavy duty hinges, a secure latch, and back rails keeping it square. Broken Arrow yards often fall away toward a drainage easement, and a fence like this follows the ground cleanly.
