Two builds share this property line. The main stretch is 5/8 inch by 3.5 inch by 6 foot cedar dog ear picket on three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails and 2 1/2 inch square steel posts in concrete. Where the fence falls in view of the house, we moved up to cap and trim: the same cedar picket finished with a 2×6 cedar cap board and 1×4 cedar trim, which locks the picket tops together and covers the end grain that weathers first. Galvanized ring shank nails hold all of it. A cedar walk gate joins the two sections. That cap board is the detail that makes a Bixby yard look built rather than assembled.
