Wrapping a property in one material keeps the color and the top line consistent the whole way around, and cedar does that well because the boards vary slightly in tone and read as natural rather than manufactured. Every stretch here is the same build: 5/8 inch by 3.5 inch dog ear cedar pickets, three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails, galvanized ring shank nails, and 2 1/2 inch square steel posts set in concrete. The cedar walk gates came out of our shop using the same stock, so each one closes flush into the line on a secure latch. A larger Broken Arrow lot with more than one way in needs the gates to feel like fence, not additions.
