This one covered several separate runs, so layout mattered more than usual. We strung each line, set 2 1/2 inch square steel posts in concrete, and kept the top of the fence consistent from run to run before framing with three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails. Cedar pickets, 5/8 inch by 3.5 inch, went on with galvanized ring shank nails. Walk gates were built to match the picket pattern and hung once the fence stood true. Breaking a yard into sections gives you controlled access between areas instead of one large enclosure. On the bigger Broken Arrow properties we work on, that is often how a family actually uses the space.
