Gates fail before fences do, which is why this one is framed in 1 1/2 inch galvanized square steel tubing, welded square and clad in the same cedar as the run. Wood gate frames loosen at the corners eventually. A welded steel one does not, and it opens outward away from the house so nothing catches on the way through. The fence around it is 5/8 inch by 3.5 inch cedar pickets on three Douglas Fir 2×4 backrails, all fastened with galvanized ring shank nails, all carried by 2 1/2 inch square steel posts set in concrete. Sapulpa yards on rolling ground load a fence unevenly, and concrete footings absorb it.
