Part of this yard needed to be closed off and part of it needed to stay open, so we built it both ways. The screened stretch is cedar dog ear on 2 1/2 inch square steel posts with three Douglas fir 2×4 back rails. Where the view was worth keeping, we installed Ameristar Montage in the Classic three rail profile on 2 inch black posts set in concrete. Two gates serve the yard: an Ameristar iron walk gate hung on the ornamental run, and a wood gate we built on a welded 1 1/2 inch galvanized steel frame that swings outward, away from the house. Steel framing keeps a heavy privacy gate from dropping out of square.
