Both openings on this property hang from welded steel, which takes gate sag off the table for good. We fabricated the frames from 1 1/2 inch galvanized square steel tubing in our shop, one for a double gate and one for a walk gate that swings outward, away from the house. Galvanizing answers the rust question without a paint schedule. The frames are clad in the same cedar as the fence, 5/8 by 3.5 by 6 foot pickets over three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails, nailed with galvanized ring shank nails and carried on 2 1/2 inch square steel posts in concrete. Jenks lots that see heavy traffic through the gates justify the heavier frame.
