The fence went up first, then the gate that gets the most use. Along the run we set 2 1/2 inch square steel posts in concrete, framed with three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails, and nailed 5/8 inch by 3.5 inch cedar pickets on with galvanized ring shank nails. For the opening we welded a frame from 1 1/2 inch galvanized square steel tubing, faced it in matching cedar, and hung it to swing outward away from the house so nothing inside the yard blocks its path. Gates give out before fences do, almost always at the frame. Building that frame from steel is why this one keeps closing squarely in Glenpool.
