The gate is usually the last piece and the first to be judged. This one is an 8 foot double built in our shop from the same cedar as the run, hung on 8 inch strap hinges with a drop rod assembly holding the passive leaf. It is wide enough for a mower or a loaded wheelbarrow, and nothing about it depends on hardware you cannot work by hand. The fence is 5/8 by 3.5 by 6 foot cedar pickets over three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails, nailed with galvanized ring shank nails, on 2 1/2 inch square steel posts in concrete. Tulsa clay moves. The concrete footings and steel keep the line from following it.
