Treated 4×4 posts and cedar pickets make an all wood fence, and set properly it is a long lived one. Every post went into concrete, keeping water from wicking up the grain and holding the line straight as Owasso clay swells and shrinks. The pickets are 5/8 inch by 3.5 inch by 6 foot cedar, dog ear cut, carried on three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails with galvanized ring shank nails. For access we built a walk gate and an 8 foot wood frame double gate, hung on 8 inch strap hinges with a drop rod assembly to pin one leaf closed. Both runs use identical materials, so the whole boundary reads the same.
