Not every run on a property needs the same height, and this one steps between two. The taller section uses 5/8 inch by 6 inch cedar pickets on 2 1/2 inch square steel posts set in concrete with three Douglas fir 2×4 back rails. The shorter section uses the same 6 inch cedar boards on two back rails instead of three. Wider pickets mean fewer seams across the face and a heavier look up close. The walk gate is welded from 1 1/2 inch galvanized square steel tubing and hung to swing outward away from the house. A steel frame will not sag the way a wood gate frame eventually can. Bixby yards with grade changes benefit from stepped heights.
