Height puts extra load on everything, so this eight foot run carries four Douglas fir 2×4 backrails rather than three, giving each 5/8 by 3.5 by 8 foot cedar picket another point of support. The 2 1/2 inch square steel posts are set in concrete and handle the wind a tall solid face collects. Galvanized ring shank nails hold the boards through seasonal movement. The walk gate is framed in 1 1/2 inch galvanized square steel tubing welded in our shop, then clad in cedar. It opens outward, away from the house, and will not drop out of square. A tall screen suits Tulsa lots that back onto busier ground.
