Open acreage needs a fence you can see across, and round rail does that better than anything else we build. We augered in 4 inch treated pine posts, set them in concrete, and doweled 4 inch by 8 foot rails into them so each joint locks rather than depending on fasteners alone. Behind the rails runs 9 gauge black finish chain link, which fades out at a distance but keeps dogs and small animals on the right side. A double gate handles mower and equipment traffic, and a walk gate covers daily comings and goings. Doweled joints matter on ground that shifts, and Bixby clay shifts every season it dries out and takes on water again.
