Wood moves with Oklahoma weather, swelling through a humid June and drying out again by fall, and a gate is where that movement shows up first. Both privacy walk gates here carry an adjustable diagonal support brace and swing outward away from the house, so a dropped corner can be pulled back square without rebuilding anything. The privacy runs use 5/8 by 3.5 inch cedar pickets on 2 1/2 inch square steel posts with three Douglas fir 2×4 backrails and galvanized ring shank nails. Along the open boundary we set treated round rail posts in concrete with 4 inch by 8 foot doweled rail and 9 gauge black chain link behind it. Two very different edges, one Broken Arrow property.
