Open country means wind with nothing to slow it, and a rail fence simply lets it through. The posts are 4 inch round treated pine, set in concrete, carrying 4 inch by 8 foot doweled round rails. Nine gauge black chain link runs behind those rails, which is what turns a boundary marker into something that genuinely holds dogs and livestock. Treated pine handles the wet and dry cycle of this soil, and doweled joints keep rails from working loose in the posts over the years. We hung a round rail double gate for equipment and a round rail walk gate for everyday coming and going. Around Oologah, it looks like it belongs.
